Two backups at the same time causing VSS errors

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

Hi

We have an MSL 4048 with 2x LTO 5 tapes

,if i set two jobs to run simultaneously

One starts at 9:00 PM and will end around 10:00PM and the other starts at 9:30PM and will end around 10:30PM

The jobs will finish with this exception:

V-79-10000-11233 - VSS Snapshot error. A Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) snapshot is already running on the target computer. Only one snapshot can run at a time.  Try running the job later.

Does it mean that becuase VSS was used in the first job, it cannot run twice?

Does it means that as a concept, even that the auto loader got 2 x LTO drives, it is better not to run two jobs at the same time?

Thanks

I need a solution

Hi Guys,

I need your advice. I am currently setting up a new NBU Environment.

MASTER/MEDIA Server: running on Windows 2012 R2

CLIENTS server: running on SAP HANA Appliance (SuSe)

Now, my problem is when I tried installing the NBU Agent to the SAP HANA appliance, I encountered an error "Permission Denied". I already logged in as root, even performed CHMOD but still encountered the error. Attached is the screenshot of the actual installation.

What I am missing here?

Regards,

Adonis

How do I stop a missed job being rescheduled?

I need a solution

We have a scheduled daily backup that runs to a NAS unit at 04:00.

If for any reason, a backup gets missed, I do NOT want it rescheduled as it is throwing out the whole backup routine. How do I stop a missed job being rescheduled?

Device capacity/data

I need a solution

We decided to label some old tapes on Friday before the full backup because the 'Used Capacity/Data' never makes any sense and trying to fathom out how many tape are being used isn't easy in Backup Exec. So we started by labelling the tapes - which gives a 64KB Data written to tape (this makes sense)

As you can see by the screenshot, it has used a different compression ratio on a couple of the tapes - why is this?

So can we take it that to backup 5.4TB, it only used seven tapes since the Data field is still 64KB?

Why did the backup use slots 1 to 5 and 13/14 (ignoring 6 to 12)?

How do you ever monitor how many tapes and which ones are being used during a backup if the same tapes are rotated because the Data field never seems to reset per backup job?

Netbackup Accelerator Change Log Size

I need a solution

Hi,

I have to implement the use of netbackup accelerator on one of our Redhat Linux hosts. The server is approx 6.5Tb in size and currently a Full backup over the LAN takes in excess of 3 days to complete. So we thought we would try the accelerator.

I have done a bit of digging around and can see it uses a change log and my question is around the sizing of this log.

With it being on a Linux server i was going to create a new file system specifically for the log and then create a symbolic link within the normal netbackup install directory called /netbackup_track pointing to this seperate filesystem. I was thinking that by doing this it wouldnt bring the server crashing to a halt, just stop backupss if this change log area filled up. But i am trying to figure out how big to create this filesystem and not finding much information.

So does anyone have experience of creating this change log area on Linux hosts and have some advice/information on working out how big to make it?

Thanks

Hello People,

I want to restore old LTO3 tapes(written by an EMC Cellera) to same EMC Cellera

The ndmp host is configured.

I have got a new Windows Server 2008R2 with NBU 7.5 installed. It´s my first time to restore with NDMP

In the Restore Manger I filled in the following configuration:

Server: My master server

Source Client: the ndmp filer

Destination Client: the ndmp host, which is already configurated

Policy: NDMP

When I try to start the restore everything to differnt location, than this error will apear. Unable to connect to Netbackup host "myNdmphost"

Thanks for your help!

BE 15 FP2 backups wrong size

I need a solution

Hello!

I've installed a new version of BackupExec 15 FP2 a few days ago and make backups some fileservers.

And what i've got is (look at backups sizes at right corner):

Store_view2.JPG

But here are the actual sizes by job's log:

  • Clusterfs1 - full - 150 GB
  • Clusterfs2 - full - 299 GB
  • Fileserver - full - 476 GB

job_log.JPG

How is it possible? How to solve it?

Before it i've used  BE 2014 SP2

Now the only difference in settings of jobs: enabled software compression (in store options, where i select store and server and time to store).

I will test a differense with/out software compression this week and post later.

Thanks for you advices!

I need a solution

Hi All,

I installed NetBackup client on my RedHatLinux KVM.

During upgrade my KVM, I backed up the files under /usr/openv. But after upgrading my KVM, I found that NetBackup client service is not started.

I have to manually start it by running command "/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bp.start_all".

Does anyone know which file should I backup to keep the NetBackup client service start after I upgrade my KVM??

Regards,

Lacey
